Valentine's Day DIY

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and if you're like me, then this is a holiday that isn't really too important to you. Yes, it is a lovely day full of love that is all about showing the ones you love just how much you love them and more love love love.. But honestly, you should take advantage of every normal day by showing those you love in your life how much they mean to you. Now, I'm not saying that gifts shouldn't be given and nice things shouldn't be done on Valentine's Day, but it also shouldn't be the only day you go all out for the ones you love.

With that little Valentine's Day rant aside, I have a few cute DIY gift ideas for you! To me, handmade gifts mean so much more than anything you could buy. Just knowing that someone took time to think up and create a gift for you makes it that much more special and that's what Valentine's Day is all about!

The first gift is a fun twist on those handmade coupons that are flooding the main page of Pinterest at the moment. Instead of just making paper coupons, I decided to make little felt fortune cookies that were inspired by these cute Valentine's day themed Chinese take-out boxes I saw at Michales. I knew right there in the store that I needed to make something to go inside of them! I found this super easy to follow tutorial on Tumblr that led me here

With just one simple stitch and a fold, you get these adorable felt fortune cookies that you can fill with cute little notes or "good for one" coupons. I filled half of mine with things I love about my boyfriend and the other half with things I'd do for/with him. They're just cute little reminders of how much he means to me :)

The second gift is a "date bucket" filled with various date ideas ranging from free to a full on night out/trip. I got the bucket from the dollar section at target and the popsicle sticks and paint from Michales. Each popsicle stick is color coated depending on the price/planning required for each date. The white sticks are dates that are at-home or free dates. The pink ones are fairly inexpensive dates and the red sticks require saving and planning. When I give my boyfriend the gift I'll lay down some ground rules like, when picking out a stick we have to pick a color that is appropriate for that day and also to do the first one we pick without peeking. It's just a fun thing to do on those days when you both want to do something, but play the "I don't care it's up to you" game, haha.

Some ideas:
White
Build a fort and watch a movie in it
Go window shopping for the apartment
Make breakfast for dinner
Pink
Take the dogs to the dog park
Dessert only date
Coffee date
Red
Dinner at The Melting Pot
Snowboarding trip to Big Bear
Disneyland

You could always change up these gifts and make them appropriate for a best friend or even for yourself. Just have fun and be creative! Happy Valentine's Day!

*Sorry for the quality of the photos, I took them at night before my bf came home so he wouldn't see them.
